If you know anything about football then
you know that Manchester United's past has been a very interesting one.
It has been a mixture of success and disaster, but it is thanks to those
events that the club is where it is today.
United got off to quite a good start
in the early 1900's winning the league in 1908 and the cup the year after.
Then United went through a bad spell, football was called off during World
War I and when it restarted united were finding it difficult to be successful.
Things got worse in the 30's and United found themselves in the second
division.
Again football was called off because
of World War II, but when it started again this time the world was about
to see football history being made. Although United were well known
at this point, they were about to grow even larger thanks to Sir Matt Busby.
He created the "Busby Babes" and United went from strength to strength.
With players like Duncan Edwards United were able to go into Europe and
although it was difficult at first, it was a major step. However,
in 1958 there was a terrible plane crash in Munich in which many of the
United team were killed. This was a terrible time for the club and
although things seemed like they could never return to how they were, Sir
Matt Busby continued to build the team.
Things did get better and United won
the European Champions Cup in 1968. This was a great achievement
and really put the club on the international map.
From then on things have gone up and
down with United winning trophies through the years with great players
such as Sir Bobby Charlton and George Best. But few United fans would
deny that through the 90's and under Alex Ferguson the club has had it's
best spell. The club has won 17 major titles during that time.
There have been bad moments too such as the Eric Cantona "kicking" incident.
